Kamala Kelkar | Ladakh

About This Project

Ladakh of Kashmir is teeming with beauty and also territorial tension that continues to haunt its residents. While the region maintains what’s left of the Tibetan culture, it’s also a point of contention between India and Pakistan because of disputes over the border. With snow-capped Himalaya, Buddhist temples, flowing prayer flags and historical richness, it turned into a tourist target soon after it reopened to foreigners about 25 years ago. These pictures were taken as winter started to creep in 2013 and 2014.
