Volcano erupts into an island

The newest hot spot in the Red Sea just got put on the map, literally.

A massive underwater volcano off the west coast of Yemen is active again, and the spew seems to have created an island.

For the first time since 1824, lava fountains in the Zubair Archipelago erupted earlier this month. Ten other small islands were previously brought to life by the same phenomenon.

If it withstands the sea’s crashing waves, the 11th island will sit between its bigger siblings, Rugged and Haycock Islands.
